Law on the Frontlines

Trustworthy legal information is a critical first step in ensuring that all Marylanders have access to justice. The Maryland State Library, the Conference of Maryland Court Law Library Directors and the Maryland Access to Justice Commission seek to empower public librarians across the state to provide quality legal reference to patrons in their local communities though a state-wide unified curriculum.

The information presented in this training will enable reference staff to respond to a legal question with confidence. They will be able to:

-Recognize when a question is a legal one or has a legal aspect;
-Conduct an appropriate legal reference interview;
-Respond to a legal question with helpful information, but not legal advice; and
-Identify pertinent resources and referrals from the broad spectrum available.
