Romance Fiction 101

Romance fiction sells so well, has such ancient roots, intersects with so many other genres, and says so much about our changing world that becoming familiar with it will make you smarter in everything you do as a librarian. This session will review romance fiction's history and probe recent trends, such as the Fifty Shades of Grey phenomenon and the fascination with Jane Austen. Surveying subgenres, related genres, and key authors, we'll explore ways to please even the most challenging romance reader.
